Wake up in the middle of the night, open the app, flip one switch — I'm Up — and see which of your friends are awake too. When a friend comes online while you're up, your phone gives a soft nudge: “they're up too.”

Your iCloud account is your identity. Share a short friend code — text it, say it, write it on a napkin.

😴No false alarms

You only show as “up” while your phone recently checked in. Fall asleep and you fade off the board automatically.

Sudoku races, word duels, and dots & boxes — head-to-head with whoever's up, with lifetime series records.

The who's-up board on your home screen and lock screen, decaying honestly even with no signal.

Common questions

Why does a friend show asleep when they say they're up? They haven't opened the app recently — status decays after their quiet timeout to avoid false alarms.
I don't see my friend. One of you enters the other's 6-character friend code (Add a Friend screen) — the link becomes mutual automatically.
How do I delete my data? Settings → Delete My Data removes your name, code, and status from iCloud immediately.
Where are the multiplayer games? Long-press a friend in your list to challenge them.

Can't Sleep is built to know as little about you as possible.

What the app stores

Three things, in Apple's iCloud (CloudKit): the display name you choose (it can be anything), a randomly generated friend code, and your up/asleep status with its last-updated time. Game challenges you send (puzzle data, guesses count, moves) are also stored so your opponent's device can see them. We run no servers of our own and cannot read your iCloud account, contacts, photos, or anything else on your device.

Who sees it

Your name and status are visible to people you connect with by exchanging friend codes. Sharing your code is your choice; removing a friend stops their app from notifying you.

No accounts, no tracking

There is no signup, no password, no analytics, and no tracking. The app never requests access to your contacts. We do not sell or share data with data brokers.

Advertising

A single banner ad may appear on the sudoku screen, served by Google AdMob in non-personalized mode — the app never requests cross-app tracking permission. Google's handling of ad requests is described in Google's privacy policy.

Deleting your data

Settings → Delete My Data erases your name, friend code, status, and game records from iCloud immediately. Uninstalling the app stops all data updates.

Children

Can't Sleep is not directed at children under 13.
